About Us
Versatile Computer Services, Inc. is a private company that provides a wide range of computer networking and software management solutions.
We got our start in 1986 by selling and supporting automation devices and software to Chicago area libraries. Versatile started doing contract work for the Metropolitan Library System in 1996 when that organization was still called the Suburban Library System. MLS is a membership-based organization serving academic, public, school, and specialty libraries in Chicago and suburban communities in Cook, DuPage and Will counties.
Versatile also contracts IT support with about a dozen suburban libraries. Established in 1986 by current company president, Dan Graham, VCS’s main specialty is providing hardware, software and networking support and research services to a wide variety of Chicago area libraries and business organizations. The company's corporate office is located in Park Forest, Illinois.
In late 2009, Versatile Computer Services formed a partnership with with New Jersey-Based Comprise Technologies Inc. to bring enhanced customer support for SAM Software to the Chicago area. SAM stands for Smart Access Manager.
SAM software is a fully integrated single source solution for session, Internet, and print management in public computer environments. SAM is used in more than 3,000 libraries nationwide to control over 25,000 computers and manage over 4 million patron accounts.
